Vanavond om precies 0.00 uur gaan we van donker naar licht, van oud naar nieuw.

Vorig jaar staken we in Nederland voor ruim 60 miljoen Euro aan vuurwerk af. Volgens de voorspellingen zal het dit jaar meer zijn. Per aankoop besteden mensen ondanks de kredietcrisis voor 44,50 euro vuurwerk, 2,50 euro meer dan vorig jaar. Dat blijkt vandaag uit onderzoek van de Postbank onder 84.900 ondervraagden. Zo'n beetje een kwart van alle Nederlanders koopt vuurwerk. Het gaat in totaal om ongeveer 9500 ton. Vanavond allemaal naar boven kijken dus. !!

Gevel reclame voor het Theater.

Uithangborden zijn van ouds her de "omroeper" geweest met een vleugje magie van hetgeen zich op het podium in het theater en op het bioscoopscherm ging af spelen. Het was een lokroep om vooral toch snel een kaartje voor de volgende voorstelling te kopen. Tegenwoordig prikkelen we de publieke aandacht nog veel meer met LED-schermen. In dit artikel wordt een overzicht gegeven van de belangrijkste ontwikkelingen in de VS.
Film paleizen van weleer zijn nu uitgerust met de modernste LED-schermen en voegen hi-tech-glitter en glamour toe aan hun theater gevels.

World’s Largest Multimedia Projection

Quebec City has gone big, big, big, with the world’s largest multimedia projection, created by Robert Lepage and Ex Machina.
Since June 20, The Image Mill has been lighting up Quebec City’s Old Port grain silos to celebrate the city’s 400th anniversary.
This stunning multimedia experience tells the story of Quebec City’s history in four chapters corresponding to the city’s four centuries of history: waterways, the age of exploration and discovery; road building, clearing and developing the land; the railroad and industrial expansion; and finally, the age of air travel and the development of communications. The scenes use the entire 81 grain silos that have been transformed into a huge screen of 600 metres long by 30 metres high. Watching a train drive across the silos in one scenario is sheer visual excitement.
The entire south side of the Louise Basin from Pointe-à-Carcy to the western extremity of the basin, is wired for sound with speakers. A total of 329 speakers, 27 Christie video projectors, 20,000 lumens each, and 238 spotlights, 203 of which are LED, are being used around the site. Outside this zone, the public can tune into 88.3 (Radio CKIA-FM) on their Walkman for a simulcast of the soundtrack to make the most of this experience. Spectators perceive no lapse between the sound and the image, no matter where they are seated for the projection.

NanoTouch

Microsoft and the Hasso-Plattner-Institute in Berlin / Potsdam, are back with NanoTouch, a further refinement of the technology aimed at making UIs practical on tiny devices. Utilizing a 2.4-inch screen with a touch pad on the back, users can select or drag items from the underside -- meaning that the entire screen is visible at all times. According to researchers, targets as little as 1.8mm (less than half the size of, say, the buttons on an iPhone) are easily hit using this method -- bringing the advantages of touchscreens to smaller form factors, with a number of possible applications including electronic jewelry, wearable computers, and virtual finger puppets.

LCD-televisies vliegen de winkel uit

LCD-televisies vliegen de winkel uit. Dit jaar wordt een recordverkoop van 1,7 miljoen platte tv's verwacht tegen 1,3 miljoen in 2007. Dit blijkt uit cijfers van marktonderzoeksbureau GfK.
"In de week van sinterklaas gingen de verkopen zelfs heel erg omhoog." Behalve televisies gingen ook grotere aantallen digitale camera's, mp3-spelers en camcorders over de toonbank. Andere verkoophits zijn digitale fotolijstjes en apparatuur om video en andere media van de pc naar de televisie te sturen.
Vergelijkingssite Beslist.nl heeft in december onderzoek gedaan naar de prijsontwikkeling van LCD televisies bij 475 aangesloten winkels. Het belangrijkste resultaat: de prijzen van LCD tv’s zijn drastisch gedaald, tot wel 12 procent in de maand december alleen al. Een platte televisie kost dit jaar gemiddeld 834 euro tegen 931 euro in 2007.
