JEM
Our most ambitious public artwork to date. JEM is there to unify people through a shared experience and we’re excited to see how people rest, dream and play in this rare space.” ENESS debuts a public artwork that beckons to be explored. The team of artists, designers, musicians and software engineers collaborated with South Bank Corporation and Stukel Stone Architects to create JEM. JEM is a sculptural dome made of 32 cascading arms brimming with light. JEM reacts to peoples' movement with rhythmic sounds and visual delights. Powerfully responsive sensors guide people into a state of calm. The work is a futuristic folly, a safe space that is relaxing, exciting and awe-inspiring at the same time. Its plush crochet beds provide a place to laze and absorb its radiant rays. JEM encourages people to raise their heads in awe and gently nudges lovers and strangers into each other’s company. Being inside the work feels deeply contemplative, as all senses are focused on being in the present moment. The cross-disciplinary team came together to realise the notion of ‘metamorphosis’ into this unforgettable physical experience. JEM is at the heart of Flowstate, a vibrant, open-air pavilion and creative space on South Bank, Brisbane. JEM is an welcoming beacon for locals and international visitors flooding into the region for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Custom-designed by Fusion CI Studios.
This computer-generated waterfall is 42’x13’ (4992x1536 pixels — that’s 7.7 million glorious pixels)! Unique in the world, the waterfall hides a secret door, that at the touch of an i-pad, opens & closes with the waterfall playfully splashing around the doorframe, allowing performers onstage! AND The waterfall is programmable to react in any way you can imagine to movements or sound on stage, so performers & audiences will love it. A brilliant use of LED screen design and technology! In keeping with Resorts World Catskills exquisite luxury design that draws the gorgeous Catskills environment indoors, the waterfall background is a digital replica of nearby Stony Kills Falls cliffs. It’s about an hour’s drive from the casino and you can hike to the actual falls. So cool… Last, but not least…. YES! you can watch TV on it. Needless to say, in Eagles country, Super Bowl 2018 was a huge hit at this bar!

The world’s largest mobile LED screen
Smart AV has become the exclusive UK distributor of the world’s largest mobile screen from HD LEDShine.
The mobile LED screen aperture measures 144 square metres, has a 360-degree rotation for wider viewing and can be set up in an hour for outdoor events. The LED screen is 16 metres wide and 9 metres high, with nearly 4K resolution across its more than 6 million pixels. The screen also offers perfect contrast and a clean base (without a truck underneath)
Until the HD LEDShine mobile screen came to market, the largest screen (without losing the 16:9 configuration) was 100m² and had a huge truck underneath.
Belgium-based company HD LEDShine is to launch the screen internationally at Pro Light + Sound in Frankfurt on 10 April.
“We are excited to work with HD LEDShine as the exclusive UK partner, to bring this world-record screen to our clients,” said Darren Poultney, CEO of Smart AV. “The screen is a game changer as it will open up LED as a roll-in, roll-out LED solution with 4K resolution for events. Our mission at Smart AV is to continue to deliver the latest technology at the highest quality and this solution embodies all of those key values.”
Tony Winter, CEO of HD LEDShine, said: “Our company tries to push the boundaries of the impossible on a daily basis. Until now, we were told 120m² was the absolute limit or the screen couldn’t be transported properly any more, but we were able to create a larger solution that still retains high quality.”
Following the launch at Pro Light + Sound a second event will also allow audiences to view the screen at the HD LEDShine headquarters in Belgium on 19 April.

Luciola : A Millimeter-Scale Light-Emitting Particle Moving in Mid-Air.
Japanese engineering researchers say they have created a tiny electronic light the size of a firefly which rides waves of ultrasound, and could eventually figure in applications ranging from moving displays to projection mapping.
We present an approach to realize the levitation of a small object with an embedded electronic circuit. Luciola is a light-emitting particle with a diameter of 3.5mm and a weight of 16.2mg moving in mid-air in a 10.4cm x 10.4cm x 5.4cm space through acoustic levitation using two 40-kHz 17 x 17 ultrasonic transducer arrays placed face-to-face at a distance of 20cm and wirelessly powered by 12.3-MHz resonant inductive coupling. The novelty of this paper is the acoustically levitated electronic object by the combined application of ultrasonic levitation and wireless powering to the levitated electronic object. A new shape of the levitated object and a new placement of the receiver coil to simultaneously realize acoustic levitation and wireless powering are proposed, achieving a stable wireless powering to a rotating levitated object at the bottom of an acoustic potential. To enable the levitation of a particle, a custom IC chip is essential in reducing the size and weight of the particle. In the design of the custom IC chip, a new voltage detector circuit enabling an accurate voltage detection and a correct output during the start-up is proposed to achieve an intermittent lighting of the LED to increase the maximum distance between the transmitter and the receiver coil. Luciola is applied to a self-luminous pixel in a mid-air display and drawings of characters in mid-air are demonstrated.

Digital Marquee (LED Pylon) - The Forum Shops: Caesars Palace | Las Vegas | 4K UHD.
A unique installation on the Las Vegas strip, the Pylon sign outside of The Forum shops is a 3D canvas designed to interest and excite the millions of visitors per year who walk past it.
The software, developed by Acquire Digital, enables the stunning content to wrap around the high-resolution, custom-built 3D LED architecture of animated columns - simulating classic Roman, Marble, and in fact anything, to frame the main content visible on the strip. Also unique is the attention-grabbing transition, enabling the typical cut or fade to black as content swaps from one item in the playlist to another to be hidden behind a 3D rendered transition.
To control the sign, a simple to use customised playlist manager was created to enable the client to easily upload and scheduled content, choose animations and columns, and synchronise the Pylon to the nearby Windows (to enable fully immersive 'takeover' messages to occur).
The sign is owned and operated by Simon Properties, Software by Acquire Digital, Content by Moment Factory, Pylon by Yesco.

Japanese researchers develop ultrathin, highly elastic skin display.
The soft, flexible skin display is about 1 millimeter thick, and consists of a 16 x 24 array of micro LEDs and stretchable wiring mounted on a rubber sheet. It can withstand repeated stretching, by as much as 45 percent of its original length, without showing any loss in function of its electrical and mechanical properties. Credit: 2018 Takao Someya Research Group.
A new ultrathin elastic display that fits snugly on the skin can show the moving waveform of an electrocardiogram recorded by a breathable, on-skin electrode sensor. Combined with a wireless communication module, this integrated biomedical sensor system, called "skin electronics," can transmit biometric data to the cloud.
This latest research by a Japanese academic-industrial collaboration, led by Professor Takao Someya at the University of Tokyo's Graduate School of Engineering, is slated for a news briefing and talk at the AAAS Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas on February 17th.

A slanted floating mirror and dazzling LED Floor.

The French indie Rockers Group Phoenix started its’ world Tour, Ti Amo, in North America in May this year, before rocking the festival season here in Europe, then hitting the Asian continent and returning for their shows in London and Paris this month of September.
Once the whole of the creative design in place, Live Nation France, renowned organizer of prestigious concerts worldwide, approached PRG France with a very ambitious and challenging set design needing to dazzle spectators on a festival stage as well as an Arena stage, without changing the design. The guideline resumed itself in ‘modularity and time saving touring concepts’ for this Phoenix World Tour, for which PRG France pulled in the PRG Projects team, who specializes in the integration and development of unique staging and visualisation items.

Twin LED walls light up 55 Water lobby in Wall Street.
This is a nice pair of 20 by 8 foot fine pitch LED screens that have been lit up in the lobby of 55 Water Street, in the Wall Street district of Lower Manhattan.
The total resolution on the screens is 6,400 by 1,260 pixels, which I assume means each of them is 3,200 by 1,260 pixels. I know, amazing math skills.
The set-up, as you can see, brands the building, but there are hours of custom content that includes social media aggregation, data feeds from transit, bike share and ride share services, and subscription content.
The content and overall project was put together by Orlando-based solutions shop DC Bolt, running Signagelive software on Christie LED screens. The screens also run off a Crestron Control system and RGB Spectrum Multi-Window video wall processor.
