Hoe werkt het LCD scherm ?

Hier een uitleg hoe het LCD scherm werkt.

On the 287-Megapixel HIPerSpace Wall at Calit2.

We believe that a systematic use of large-scale computational analysis and interactive visualization of cultural data sets and data streams will become a major trend in cultural criticism and culture industries in the coming decades. What will happen when humanists start using interactive visualizations as a standard tool in their work, the way many scientists do already? If slides made possible art history, and if a movie projector and video recorder enabled film studies, what new cultural disciplines may emerge out of the use of interactive visualization and data analysis of large cultural data sets?"
Links to white papers, scholarly papers, presentations, and photos related to this cultural visualization and related techniques/projects can be found on the UCSD Cultural Analytics web page.

High Definition Virtual Reality for Interactive Visualization-

JVC’s Professional Products division is proud to announce today that the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology has developed a new immersive visualization system they call the NexCAVE.
What is NexCave? It is an array of LCD panels that provides a projector-free visualization display that enables the visualization of massive datasets in great detail, at high speeds. It was created at Calit2's Virtulab, under the direction of Research Scientist Tom DeFanti. The bonus of this system is that it is much less costly than traditional VR Cave projection systems.
This device uses nine GD-463D10U 3D HD monitors to give the user the feeling that they are in the environment. All of these displays feature a 46” diagonal screen, full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution, and 2000:1 contrast ratio. The NexCAVE is created by the same developers who created the CAVE system, which uses 3D projectors to turn a room into a 3D environment. The use of monitors instead of projectors allows for a more compact system that can also be portable for traveling purposes.

Wall interaction with a cell phone.

GestureTek & Sprint's Interactive Wall: 3D depth-sensing allows wall interaction with a cell phone.

The video and photos are of the Sprint Center Interactive Wall, powered by GestureTek's 3D depth-sensing system. The media art was created by Takashi Kawashima,a designer/media artist who lives in San Francisco.

GestureTeks 3D depth sensing technology powers an attention-grabbing interactive digital signage system for telecom leader Sprint. The 3D depth sensing interactive display screen, with mobile phone connectivity, tracks peoples body movements, and responds by sending a Sprint promotional message that follows them the entire length of the interactive billboard. The interactive motion-detecting advertising message invites users to create their own personalized interactive wall art on Sprints gesture control screen, by calling Sprint on their mobile phone. GestureTeks 3D tracker is the heart of the system

3D laptops.

Bron; http://www.fan.tv

King Power.

A 15 minute projection and live dance performance, celebrating King Power’s 20th anniversary. 3D Building Mapping in "THE WONDROUS SHOW" at King Power. The First Time Ever in Thailand and the most giant mapping projection in Asia.
Five Barco projectors where used spaning the length of the 90 meter building, creating a 6400x1024 pixel canvas for ENESS to blanket with 3d real-time animation and sound delight. Using our in-house 3d projection engine ‘Pixile’ we were able to map and match every surface of the building in days.

Any tech slavey person would assume this type of huge installation would require months of preparation and series of networked machines to achieve the task. We did it all with 1 machine and in 1 month.

Seiko Ocean Alarm Clock.

Bron; ubergizmo.
Seiko's newest alarm clock -- the Ocean Theater -- it's pretty cool. The clock, which responds to touch, can project various marine life upon your walls, and we imagine it'll be a huge hit with children. As you'll see in the video after if this thing works as advertised, it's really rather impressive. The Ocean Theater also doubles as an iPod dock, and will be available from Japan Trends; it's up for pre-order now and runs $235.

Toshiba 'Space Chair'

Bron; www.engadget.com
There's something wrong when an advertisement is more memorable than the product. Nevertheless, here we have Toshiba's Space Chair ad campaign promoting its new 2010 REGZA SV LCD TV series, Toshiba's first with LED backlight and local dimming. The campaign will later expand to include a second take featuring the Satellite T Series of 11-hour CULV laptops set for introduction in 2010. The ad follows the journey of "an ordinary living room chair" to the edge of space before falling back to Earth where the ground crew relied upon a GPS beacon to locate the craft. A few facts about the shoot:
--A helium balloon lifted the chair and Toshiba's own IK-HR1S ultra-compact 1080i camera to a height of 98,268 feet above terra firma
--FAA regulations required that the weight of the rig had to be less than four pounds
--The chair is made of biodegradable balsa wood at a cost of about £2,500
--The rig was launched in Nevada's Burning Man Black Rock desert
--The temperature dropped to minus 90 degrees at 52,037 feet
--The chair took 83 minutes to reach an altitude of 98,268 feet and just 24 minutes to fall back to earth
Truly amazing stuff. Now buckle up and click through for the show.

Dual-screen enTourage eDGe ebook reader.

We're still reserving our doubts about the viability of the enTourage eDGe -- after all, at $490 you can buy yourself a respectable netbook and a halfway decent ereader for the appropriate occasion -- but we won't say that we're not interested. Just under a month after it hit the scene, the dual-screen device has landed (in prototype form) over at Gearlog, and while some of the features weren't functional, the physical build shouldn't change much when it goes final. At first glance, the whole thing just looks a bit dated, but then again, we've still got the ultra-fresh Nook on the brain.

Samsung SyncMaster P2770HD has built-in TV tuner.

Bron; www.engadget.com
Remember the Samsung P2370HD monitor? Well, this is it at 27 inches. How's that for concision? Oh, you want more -- well, Samsung must've expected you to, because it's also added a TV tuner and a HDMI input to its latest Full HD display, to go along with a 5ms response time and a 50,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. There's also a pair of 3 watt stereo speakers that can simulate 5.1 channel sound -- good for emergencies or if you just can't stand speakers cluttering up your desktop. Filling out the goodie bag are Picture In Picture and Picture By Picture modes, which should make good use of the extra real estate on the screen by combining, for example, your desktop with a TV source. The price is set at 549,000 Won (or about $473) for Korea, though global availability looks imminent so don't rush to import it just yet.

Urban Screens Turns Building into Giant Pinball Machine.

Bron; www.gizmodo.com
Over the summer, Urban Screens took the side of the Galerie Der Gegenwart and turned it into a digital projection masterpiece. Recently, video surfaced about another project they did that was a little more fun. They turned the front of a four story building and transformed it into an interactive pinball machine. The Pinwall is controlled by two players on a platform across the street. Each player controls one of the flippers and there is also a button to launch the ball and a kick button to shake the table. Every time the ball hits one of the building’s windows a figure appears and the players get points for each figure they show. The display is made possible by a projection system that is used for large venue applications. Unfortunately, Urban Screens did not state exactly what model of projector they use.

Ring Wall, an interactive multi-touch wall.

Sensory-Minds is a small company in Germany that is focused on research and design in the field of Natural User Interfaces. If you visit the SENSORY-MINDS website, you'll find that it has been designed for touch interaction.
The two-piece ring°wall consists of a LED display and a multitouch information-wall and impresses by its size: a total surface of 425 square meters, which equals more than 6000 computer displays, is the biggest of its kind. An interactive World emerges out of 34 million pixels generated by 15 high definition projectors and is supported by 30 directional speakers.
Multitouch sensors basing on laser technology, convert the usage of the natural user interface into an experience. By direct touching, more than 80 users can simultaneously get informed about news and activities around the ringworld.

The interactive wall is not only a central information system, but also an innovative advertising tool and medium for public viewings."

Li Ning Reactive Wall.

AV&C worked here with with Portland, OR based Ziba Design to create this rather nice Li Ning Reactive Wall; a signature interactive fixture for Li Ning’s retail locations throughout mainland China.
Li Ning (the Chinese superstar athlete whom you may have seen running through the air at the 2008 Olympics bird’s nest opening) is a huge brand in China and their products competes with the likes of Nike and Adidas in the sport shoe and apparel market.

The reactive wall is able to support full body interaction by utilising a new IR camera technology, which results in high frame rate, extremely detailed, depth maps of the area in front of the sensor, and allows the software to track individual participants in 3D.

This is a very good example of a signature branded draw within a store.

Albatron's 42 inches of optical touch monitor.

While Dell and HP were busy holding a competition to see who could do a worse job of announcing their new optical multitouch displays, Albatron was crafting away a 42-inch monstrosity to completely steal their thunder. The optical part refers to a pair of CMOS sensors embedded in the bezel which are responsible for touch detection, a cheaper alternative to your typical capacitive and resistive tech, which requires an extra USB connection between the monitor and computer. Although some issues were found with Windows 7's multitouch implementation, the promise of recognizing more than two fingers with the proper software support and the general responsiveness of the unit whet our appetite for more. Alas, nobody dares speak of a price, but a 1080p 22-inch model is already available for $450.
