LG 18" transparent & rollable displays in action

LG has posted videos of its 18-inch transparent and flexible OLED panels after announcing their development last week. The flexible panel can be rolled up to a radius of 3cm with no detriment to the display and LG says panels that exceed 50 inches will be possible in the future. The transparent panel has 30% transmittance, which LG claims offers a vast improvement to the approximate 10% offered by existing LCD panels.

In one video LG demonstrates the flexible panel in operation while being rolled and unrolled. The other shows content on a transparent panel with the presenter clearly visible behind the screen.


"We are confident that by 2017, we will successfully develop an Ultra HD flexible and transparent OLED panel of more than 60 inches, which will have transmittance of more than 40 per cent and a curvature radius of 100R, thereby leading the future display market," said In-Byung Kang, senior vice president and head of the R&D Center at LG Display.
