Projection Artworks used its video mapping expertise to create a spectacular show for Heineken’s Ignite London event, a one-off celebration at the capital’s iconic Battersea Power Station.
Developed alongside RPM, the projection featured bespoke content inspired by the London skyline and Heineken’s signature colour palette. The three-minute show also drew on the Open Your City theme, using 3D animation to create dramatic optical illusions showing the power station literally opening up.
Through a series of audio-reactive 3D projection effects, the famous landmark also came to life to the sound of Jungle, who played an exclusive set to over 1,000 lucky ticket-winners. Amongst other things, it became a towering speaker stack over 100m high, driven by the live music via an audio-reactive system developed by Projection Artworks.
Party-goers were also given a light-up Ignite bottle-holder, which illuminated the crowd’s drinks in time to the music, and also lit up when drunk from or touched with another bottle.
“The #OpenLondon concept really allowed us to push the architectural boundaries of Battersea Power Station,” said Kelly Eagle, who specialises in large-scale, outdoor projects at Projection Artworks. “We were able to create lots of especially spectacular optical illusions and 3D effects inspired by the ‘opening’ theme.”
