Jaarbeurs lanceert Led’n’Light.

Jaarbeurs lanceert met Led’n’Light een nieuwe formule voor de verlichtingsbranche binnen de bouwsector. De nieuwe formule is voor o.a. fabrikanten, importeurs, groothandels en installateurs van verlichtingsproducten een uitgelezen kans om in contact te komen met professionele doelgroepen in de bouw, zoals architecten, projectontwikkelaars, gebouwbeheerders en bouwbedrijven.
Led’n’Light presenteert het hele verlichtingsscala. Van LED-lampen tot armaturen en van componenten tot complete verlichtingsoplossingen. Design, maar ook energiezuinige, breed toepasbare oplossingen. Uit onderzoek blijkt dat verlichting in de top 5 staat van snel te nemen energiebesparende maatregelen en zijn aldus binnen de bouwsector van strategisch belang.

Lichtstraat

Led’n’Light is tijdens de Week van de Bouw van maandag 9 tot en met vrijdag 13 februari 2015 aanwezig in de hal van Renovatie & Transformatie. Vijf dagen waarin alle schakels van de bouw en vastgoed elkaar vinden in Utrecht.
Volgens marktmanager Cas Wegman van Jaarbeurs is de formule uitermate geschikt om laagdrempelig en eenvoudig in te stappen. De formule is vooral ook gericht op de beleving van de bezoekers. “Bezoekers gaan we tijdens de Week van de Bouw een beleving bieden. We gaan ze in een heel andere wereld trekken. Dat doen we door de opzet van een ‘lichtstraat’ met exposanten die je kunt betreden door een lichttunnel. Het ‘tunneleffect’ trekken we door naar de opzet van de stands.”
Wegman: “Onze klanten willen met al deze partijen, in al hun rollen en samenwerkingsvormen communiceren en een relatie opbouwen. Daar is deze formule uitermate geschikt voor.”

Transwall is a transparent, 2-sided touchscreen display.

So you’ve got a touchscreen on your phone, but you can only touch one side of it. That’s pretty boring, right? A team of researchers from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) have gone beyond a simple touchscreen and created a clear wall that can respond to touches on both sides simultaneously. Not only that, but the input from the two sides can interact in a variety of ways.

The so-called Transwall is currently mounted to a large T-shaped frame that houses a small square of the material. Of course, any real production version of this system would be an actual wall rather than a window like this prototype. The touch surfaces are standard sheets of plexiglass, but behind each one is an IR touch sensor that detects when someone is interacting with the plexiglass. Sandwiched in the middle is a holographic film that allows images to be projected on the wall.



Perhaps you’ve noticed the lack of traditional screen technology in the design. How can this be a display without some pixels? The touch interactions detected by the IR layer are sent off to a computer that processes the data and then projects the image on the screen via a pair of projectors mounted on the arms of the T structure. That’s how two people can interact with the wall at the same time.

The computer that’s processing the individual touch input can figure out when the two users are touching the same location and figure that into the resulting image. The demo video shows the colors combining and expanding at each such interaction. The Transwall also has a transducer built in that adds haptic feedback to the experience.

The video produced by KAIST shows a few different demos of the Transwall — mostly messing around with the touch interaction and some games. It’s probably really fun technology to play with, but it might eventually have more serious uses in education, health, and business.

Will OLEDs help revolutionize the pico projector market ?

Market research company TechSci released a new report in which they forecast fast growth (41% CAGR) in the next five years for the global pico projector market. Currently most pico projectors used DLP and LCoS microdisplays, but in the future laser-based projectors will be common, and in addition OLED technology will also play a "significant role" in revolutionizing the pico projector market over the next five years.

Interactieve ‘wild life’ abri.

Het is best schrikken, een tetterende olifant in hartje Rotterdam terwijl je rustig wacht op de tram of bus. Reizigers die in de halte plaatsnemen, worden verrast door een olifant die tot leven komt op een digitaal scherm.

Exterion Media is in samenwerking met Diergaarde Blijdorp en reclamebureau IN10 verantwoordelijk voor de ‘wild life’ experience in de interactieve abri in Rotterdam. Door middel van wind en geluid reageert de olifant op de bewegingen van mensen in de abri. Deze interactieve abri is onderdeel van de ’.

Beleving

In de interactieve abri op de Nieuwe Binnenweg in Rotterdam wordt een ware beleving gecreëerd. Op een groot digitaal scherm dat in de abri is gebouwd, wordt een geanimeerde olifant getoond. Wanneer reizigers zich in de abri bevinden en er beweging wordt gedetecteerd, begint ook de olifant te bewegen en zwiept hij met zijn slurf heen en weer. Maar dat is niet alles…
Reizigers worden daarna verrast door de wind die de olifant uitblaast en het geluid van olifant-getrompetter, alsof de olifant op de reizigers reageert. De ‘wild life’ experience in de abri is tot en met 17 augustus 2014 te beleven.

TouchPico, a tiny projector that turns any wall into an Android touchscreen.

Handheld projectors are nothing new, but TouchPico from TouchJet offers a new twist that could be useful: the ability to turn any flat surface into an interactive screen.
The small, white hand-sized device runs any Android app and projects up to an 854 x 480 pixel, 80-inch image on any wall. At 150 lumens, it lights up any room, and ships with a special stylus. One end of the pen-like stylus, which is not attached to the projector, has an infrared switcher. The projector includes an infrared camera, which means it can track the movement of the pen in front of TouchPico’s screen. This allows you to interact with any on-screen objects with taps and gestures.

When TouchJet CMO Slava Solonitsyn loaded the popular game app Fruit Ninja, it looked quite sharp on my office wall. Then, using the pen, he launched the game and started slicing through fruits on screen. There wasn't any lag, but you can't stand directly in front of the screen without blocking the projection.

TouchPico’s abilities will be familiar to anyone who has seen a  Smart Technologies Smart Board in action, but where those educational devices need special screens and larger and more expensive projectors, TouchPico works on virtually any matte surface and is expected to list for under $500. One advantage Smart Boards have over TouchPico, though, is that they’re designed for a very short and highly angled throw (the distance from the projector to the screen), so it’s virtually impossible for educators to block the projection.
TouchPico also includes HDMI and audio out ports; its built-in Wi-Fi can be used with Android’s Screencast technology. The projector runs off standard AC power.

INTERACTIVE INSTALLATIONS: THE “SOCIAL” WINDOW DISPLAY In this day and age of social media and hyper connectivity, interactive installations have become increasingly popular as innovative ways to involve and engage with target demographics. As art installations, social experiments or marketing campaigns, interactive projects are broad enough to encompass a diverse range of applications including – but not limited to – dispersal of information, multimedia entertainment, education, or user data collection.

As part of a collaborative initiative between Queen Mary University of London’s Media and Arts Technology Programme and INITION, ambitious QMUL PhD student Lida Theodorou has created an innovative window installation which uses kinetic and tracking technology to gather data on the behavioural patterns of participants of interactive window displays

As part of Theodorou’s research, she explored various examples of existing interactive installations projects to discern which best integrated a social or collaborative element, rather than single-user projects




'Eye contact', when the digital signage becomes emotional art.

Over 650 color pixels illuminated by 16,000 LEDs make the digital work by artist Peter Hubson called 'Eye contact' award-winning research center Wellcome Trust. A huge LED screen showing closed eyes that open and blink depending on the time or when a pedestrian or passing car.

Pedestrians and motorists passing through the central London street Euston Road are surprised when a giant eyes that are displayed on two screens flashing LEDs, 'look' and open when they pass in front.
This digital art work called 'Eye contact' and performed by the artist Peter HudsonRecently graduated from Camberwell College of Arts, has won the Research Facility Wellcome Trust, which has installed on its façade. As noted, "the proposal of Peter Hubson with 'Eye contact' answer to our growing dependence on digital displays to mediate emotional content and was inspired by his personal experience and the motivation to engage with contemporary culture."

This display includes more LEDs and 650 pixels 16,000 colors, reproduce enormous eyes, that open during the day and closed at night, but that flash and move when a pedestrian or car passes in front of it.
As explained by Hubson own, "the eyes are a symbol of perception and human, instantly recognizable feature, so by submitting them through a video screen very pixelated'm challenging the generally fluid recognition process . The pixelation leaves enough detail for both viewers and travelers are able to identify the eyes of the participants. "
To create eyes, Hubson used actual image files Eye staff of 68 volunteers working at the center Wellcome Trust, showing the idiosyncrasies of each individual, which can be recognized on the screen.
