AirStrike.

bron: www.lm3labs.com
We illustrate a simple solution to deploy for events and exhibitions.
AirStrike sensor is seamlessly installed inside the booth itself and only a narrow cleft allows the “eye contact” between the stereo vision cameras and the pointing fingers.

This installation lets visitors interact with a distant screen by simply pointing in the air toward the screen.
Exhibitors can use larger, higher quality screens which will be more visible to crowds, and will remain unharmed from them.
Despite the “invisible technology”, the touchless interaction is highly attractive by itself.

AirStrike’s precision allows virtually any type of content from picture browsing to hyperlink clicks, from web sites to 3D object handling.
This configuration is so easy to deploy that it can also fit museums, digital signage or retail shops.

JCDecaux Airport has just launched ‘The Runway’, a rather nice run of 20 x 57″ double-sided digital screens in portrait, running the length of the luxury retail floor in Heathrow Terminal 5.
As these are all in proximity to stores such as Prada, Bulgari, Tiffany and Paul Smith, JCDecaux Airport is positioning ‘The Runway’ as the advertising equivalent to the world’s greatest shopping streets: Bond Street, 5th Avenue and Avenue Montaigne.

This is the first time that these 40 faces are available in a stand-alone network and follows the recent Eyetracker research that proved the power of sequential advertising at airports. JCDecaux will offer the screens in a two-week campaign, targeting upmarket brands from fashion, fragrances and jewellery to luxury holidays and products.

Richard Malton, Marketing Director of JCDecaux Airport told us “The Runway’ provides the perfect audience and environment for luxury brands, with the flexibility to run multiple creatives. This is an opportunity for client to put their brand in a location that is more upmarket than Vogue or Elle with the added benefits that come from banks of sequential screens, as demonstrated by Eyetracker. We are already talking to a number of clients about this exciting proposition.”

Wall on Tour.

Synaptics' ClearPad 3000 touchscreen.

Bron; www.engadget.com

Synaptics' existing screens can be found on the G1 and other modern smartphones, but while they offer a small amount of multitouch, they can become easily confused by anything beyond a simple pinch or swipe gesture -- and are downright dangerous for typing, thanks to a proclivity to average between two simultaneously touched points. The new ClearPad 3000 screens fight that off with new advances in capacitive technology and a new processor which can handle up to 10 simultaneous finger presses -- including some info on the shape and size of each touching finger. The entire screen can actually be tracked pixel-by-pixel, and the new technology allows for up to 8-inch screens without completely destroying battery life. Naturally, these screens will only be as good as the software that uses them (and we still haven't seen anything to top Stantum's resistive touchscreen tech), but Synaptics is doing the best it can to work with phone manufacturers (and others) who are designing interfaces for these screens, to make sure they can use the tech right. The first devices using ClearPad 3000 should hit this fall, so we suppose we'll find out soon enough if it pays off in device usability

A Cinema in my Pocket.

While the global economic crisis has swept aside a number of early innovators in mobile technology, Light Blue Optics finds itself flush with cash this morning. Having secured $15 million in funding, the UK outfit now plans to have its laser-based pico projection engine to OEMs by the end of the year; a move that should result in a tiny retail projector sometime in the first half of 2010. Why should you care? Well, unlike all those LED-based pico projectors now saturating the market, laser-based projectors offer more vivid colors and the ability to auto-focus that mobile image as it's moved about. Even better, LBO has touch-enabled the system allowing users to interact with the projected display. A second generation engine about the size of a sugar cube will ultimately allow the technology to be embedded in mobile devices like cellphones as we're already seeing with LED-based engines.

The Image Mill // Canada.

The Image Mill is an architectural projection produced and performed, in Quebec City, by Robert Lepage and Ex Machina. Representing the largest projection ever done, it requires the use of fine technology to project a huge quantity of images and films on the grain silos of the Quebec Harbour, an oversized screen, 600 feet wide by 30 meters high! In the hands of the creators, this huge mass of concrete is in constant transformation, which gives us the strange impression of it being alive and talking to us. Leaving the usual clichés behind, we discover the fascinating history of Quebec City with its upheavals, its controversies, and its great political and popular moments. The Image Mill was created as part of the festivities surrounding the 400th anniversary of Quebec City. You will be able to see The Image Mill from July 3rd to September 13 2009, from Wednesday to Sunday.

Bacteriën als verlichting.

Bron; www.bright.nl
