8.7inch tri-foldable AMOLED panel with touch sensor.
Semiconductor Energy Laboratory (SEL) Co Ltd exhibited an OLED display that can be folded in three at Display Innovation 2014, a trade show that runs from Oct 29 to 31, 2014, in Yokohama City, Japan.
SEL announced a similar display with a screen size of 5.9 inches at SID 2014, an academic conference that took place in June 2014. This time, however, it increased screen size and added a touch-panel function.
The screen size, pixel count and resolution of the new OLED display, which SEL calls "Foldable Display," are 8.7 inches, 1,080 x 1,920 and 254ppi, respectively. For its backplane, a c-axis aligned oxide semiconductor is used. Its gate driver is formed on a substrate, and its source driver is realized by COF (chip on film).
The thickness, mass and aperture ratio of the display are 100μm or less, 6g and 46%, respectively. The color display is realized by combining a color filter and white OLEDs having a tandem structure. The OLED element is a top-emission type. And SEL employed a capacitive touch panel.

Suntory HIBIKI (Japan) created the world’s first interactive whisky glass by blending traditional Japanese design with innovative sensor technology. The campaign was initiated by Suntory and Hakuhodo (Japan) to share with the world Hibiki’s uniqueness and craftsmanship of Japanese blended whisky born from a fusion of tradition and innovations.
Campaign Film: Suntory HIBIKI Harmony Bar with HIBIKI Glass
Interacting with the glass, by touching it, tilting it, drinking from it and swirling the ice cubes creates unique seasonal experiences incorporating audio and visual effects. The glass affords people a new way of experiencing whisky with 5 senses.
SENSORS & INTERACTIVITY: CAPACITIVE SENSING
Capacitive sensing is a technology, based on capacitive coupling, that takes human body capacitance as input. Capacitive sensors detect anything that is conductive or has a dielectric different from that of air. With the micro sensing controller and capacitive sensor attached to the glasses, each human movement (touching or grabbing a glass, an ice cube moving, etc.) triggers a cue to a multimedia production and audio system.
The capacitive sensors were programmed differently based on the human movements. It is all about storytelling and putting oneself in someone else’s place in order to maximize the harmony of the moment.

Whole Foods testing new interactive tech in Georgia store.
Bron; www.digitalsignagetoday.com
Second Story, a division of SapientNitro, has announced the launch of four interactive experiences it created for Whole Foods Market’s new Alpharetta, Georgia, store.
Located across the store’s café, produce, Whole Body and specialty wine and cheese departments, the installations create a more informative, entertaining and streamlined shopping experience, according to the companies, including connecting shoppers more closely to the farmers who provide the food they eat, and educating them on the sustainable growing practices that Whole Foods Market uses to rate farms in its new Responsibly Grown produce ratings program.
“Every Whole Foods Market is filled with these amazing stories about the foods we eat and the local farmers, ranchers, and fishermen who provide them,” said Joel Krieger, the Second Story creative director who led the program. “We designed the installations to connect shoppers to these stories in a new and meaningful way.”
Second Story created the following four interactive experiences:
FARM… MEET TABLE
To help Whole Foods Market connect its customers more closely to the real people that provide the food they eat, Second Story created this installation in the store’s café. An interactive wall of window panes offers shoppers a glimpse into the lives of the local suppliers.
Each window is dedicated to a different local supplier, displaying real-time images from their Instagram feed, allowing customers a peek into authentic moments — such as hands patting down freshly planted herbs or shots of the farmer's daughter blowing out candles at her birthday party. Additional curated content such as Q and A, maps, and video profiles are displayed for each supplier.

Video Mapping at AHA Cleveland.
AHA! Cleveland is a multi-day festival of lights to celebrate recent changes to the urban landscape. The event brings people from across the region together to animate public spaces using light and video art installations.
As a featured artist, Obscura was commissioned by Cleveland-based LAND studio, in sponsorship with Cuyahoga Arts & Culture and Cleveland Public Power, to create an art projection on the façade of the city’s Public Auditorium. Using ultra-high definition projection technology, Obscura transformed a 370-foot wide by 70-foot tall expanse of the building into a canvas animated by fluid imagery of natural and manmade ephemera.
“Transformations”, the name of the installation, presented the metaphorical evolution of Cleveland through the seasons. Imagery consisted of slow-motion details of nature, arts, music, and sports, all related to Cleveland. Disparate particles harmoniously assembled into objects and scenes, then gradually deconstructed to transition to the next image.
The architectural projection was an integral part of the larger community event that activated Cleveland’s downtown space and celebrated civic pride. Musical accompaniment by ChamberFest Cleveland, performing an original composition by Harald Boyesen, added dimension and texture to the projection, which beautifully captured the spirit of contemporary Cleveland.

Projection screen specialist dnp denmark has launched what it claims to be the world’s largest single-piece optical front-projection screen: the Supernova XL Screen has an image area of up to 5.3m x 3.0m – equivalent to 240in in 16:9.
“Big is truly beautiful when it comes to display technology,” said dnp VP global sales and marketing Soeren Kraemmergaard. “The Supernova XL Screen’s size and optical performance make it the ideal option for large venues such as big conference rooms, auditoriums and houses of worship. The Supernova XL Screen features optical lens technology that projects high-contrast images. It uses Supernova 08-85 screen material with the image area obtained by joining together two sheets of optical film, while a specially designed framing system keeps the screen material tensioned.
During transportation the screen is rolled up and shipped in 600mm x 425mm boxes (length determined by screen height). Additionally, it is compatible with HD and 4K projectors.

LG sold 1,000 OLED-Tv Units in October 2014.

1000 OLED-Television devices are sold in only one month in korea
LG Electronics and LG Display drops the price for their curved OLED-Television devices every month. The korean company informed us that the sales of the 55 inch OLED-Television device has reached 1.000 units in October 2014 in Korea. The reason is simple the price cut below the 4 million won level and the amazing picture quality. 1000 units per month means that the sales are increased twenty times in comparison with 2013.
The goal is to sell 800.00 OLED-Television devices in 2015, this means that it is possible that the Organic light emitting diode Television sector can be profitable soon. The secret of the success is the WRGB technology developed from Kodak.
LG Display is using a WOLED that means White-OLED, panel based on oxide TFT technology. LG can mass produce 8.000 sheets per month on the 8G fab, but the company plans to expand with more fabrication lines up to 26.000 per month.
By the way the chinese companies TCL, Hisense and Changhong uses also this panel from LG-Display. Panasonic use printing technology to produce their panels, at CES-2014 they introduce 55 inch curved 4K panels with different bending points and radiuses. Panasonics panel are with Oxide TFT and the company is working with Sony and Auo to develop a mass production ready version. Panasonic stopped their joint venture with Sony in 2013, and plan now with AUO to develop large AMOLED panels.

Nestle hiring 1 000 robots as clerks.
Tokyo - Food giant Nestle said that its Japan unit would hire 1 000 robots as sales clerks at stores across the country.
The first batch of the robots - a chatty humanoid called Pepper - will report to work by the end of this year at outlets that sell coffee capsules and home espresso machines.
“From December, they will start selling coffee machines for us at big retail stores,” said Nestle Japan spokeswoman Miki Kano.
“We are sure that our customers will enjoy shopping and being entertained by robots.”
Pepper - which has already been at work, chatting with customers at wireless giant SoftBank's outlets - has proved an effective marketing tool for the Japanese mobile carrier, delighting managers who put it to work collecting customer opinions.
The 120-centimetre (four-foot) tall robot, which moves on rollers and has what looks like a tablet computer strapped to its chest, was unveiled in June by SoftBank president Masayoshi Son.
He billed it as an “emotional” robot that understands “70 to 80 percent of spontaneous conversations”.
Pepper is set to go on the market from February for about $2 000 (R21 700) apiece. - Sapa-AFP

LG rolls out cheaper production processes for 'rollable' flexible displays.
LG's flexible displays -- including a rumoured model that can be rolled into a scroll -- are soon set to be cheaper, with LG Display to change up production processes and materials used to create the screens, researchers at the company said.
During a presentation at the 2014 International Workshop on Flexible & Printable Electronics in Jeonju, Korea, Kim Kyung-min, a researcher at LG Display's R&D center, said the company plans to use copper materials and what it called "roll-to-roll" technology to lower costs in manufacturing flexible display panels.
Panels constructed with the "roll-to-roll" printing method pass through two "rolls" during production, making it possible for LG to produce screens that are more flexible than previous iterations, the researcher said. The method also helps reduce production costs, which will in turn lower the costs of the panels to make them more attractive to clients.
As part of the new process, LG said it will replace the current aluminium wires it uses in the displays with copper, which will lower costs, increase resolution and emit no substances hazardous to humans and the environment. That last point had previously been a concern, as some chemical properties of copper had in past prevented the technology from being applied.
"Based on the equipment that LG Display already possesses, we have already finished preparation to use [roll-to-roll] technology (in production)," said Kim.
Meanwhile, according to company insiders, LG already possesses the technology to produce display panels that roll into a shape of a scroll -- though when this will be commercialized is as yet unknown. The company will adopt this technology in making mostly tablets, the insiders said.
Earlier this year, LG showed off an 18-inch flexible OLED panel with more flexibility than any other tablet in its size.
