Captive Media brings pee-controlled video games to bar and pub urinals

Captive Media is unveiling a hands-free video game for urinals in pub and restaurant toilets today, designed as a digital marketing tool to 'engage young men out socialising: a notoriously hard market to reach'.

Captive Media's new pee-controlled games, utilising digital signage technology, will hit bar and pub toilets starting in 2012
Advertising is integral to the new gaming platform, with branding appearing on the digital screens before, during and after the minute-long games including content from external advertisers as well as offers and event promotions for the host pub or bar.

Games are controlled by men moving their 'streams' from left to right and scores can then be posted to a leaderboard or directly to Twitter.

"It's a tough time for bars and pubs currently," says Captive Media co-founder Gordon MacSween. "This product offers customers something fun, and unlike anything they've seen before." Captive Media ran a four-month pre-launch trial in a bar in Cambridge which the company says 'boosted footfall [and] created local "buzz"' and impacted sales of promoted products.

The game debuted at The Exhibit bar in London, UK. Captive Media says it plans to roll out the product across bars and pubs starting in 2012.

Computerised contact lens will keep you up to date with news and texts

All-seeing eye: Scientists have developed a prototype contact lens that could one day provide the wearer with the news, texts and social networking Imagine catching up with your texts, social networking and perhaps the news without having to log on to a computer or even glance at a smartphone. Messages and images would simply appear in front of your eyes, generated by a computerised contact lens. Of course, you may not always want to be bothered by such messages if you are doing anything so quaint as – for instance – reading a book or going out walking and enjoying the scenery. But until now the concept of info-vision – the ability to stream information across a person’s field of vision – had belonged to the realms of science fiction, featuring in films such as the Terminator series or TV shows such as Torchwood. However, scientists have developed a prototype lens that could one day provide the wearer with all kinds of hands-free information. It could also be used to display directions and TV programmes.

The lenses, which would be inserted and removed like normal contacts, could also be handy if you are indeed enjoying the great outdoors, allowing you to zoom in on distant views. While the amount of information that could appear in front of our faces is tantalising, the researchers insist all the components are tiny and the normal field of vision will not be obstructed.

“The campaign gave us a substantial rise in sold tickets to Scandinavia and proves that the outdoor media is useful as a tactical medium”.

De bekendheid van Norwegian.com is verdubbeld;

Epson presenteert 3D-videobril.

Bron; www.nu.nl
Toch werkt Epsons bril net even anders.

New versus old side by side

Bron: www.dailydooh.com

NEC Display Solutions Europe is helping airport passengers get to their flights on time with the installation of a state-of-the-art high-resolution video wall in Munich Airport’s Terminal 1.

Munich Airport wanted to replace all of its old LED flight summary boards with more modern technology that would deliver a new era for passenger information systems through a flexible, bright high-resolution display.

Each video wall is made up of 12 NEC X462UN ultra-narrow bezel 46-inch monitors, delivering a total display area of over seven square metres, ensuring travellers can instantly see the information they need at a glance.

Installed by local partner InoNet, the controlling server, dubbed Mayflower II, gives Munich Airport the ability to control the video wall in any way they choose, including segmenting the displays in any configuration required, giving tremendous flexibility and choice in what information to display and how to present it.

The video wall’s mounting system has also been specially designed to make it easy to remove and easy to replace individual displays within the video wall, whilst NEC’s calibration software means that the display’s colour and brightness is consistent across the whole video wall. If one display was to fail, then the video wall can be quickly re-calibrated to ensure that the excellent image quality remained intact.

Microsoft outlines Code Space

Bron; www.engadget.com
If there's one thing that's certain about the Kinect, it's this; Microsoft wants it to be versatile. Case in point, Code Space -- the next extracurricular activity for the gaming controller which sees it teaming up with smartphones and laptops to present information on a shared screen. The project is aimed at presenting and exchanging code in developer meetings using a large display and simple hand gestures, though we could easily see this being adopted in both the classroom and the boardroom as well.

Sony komt met nieuw soort tv.

Bron; www.nu.nl

Giant virtual aquarium brings a splash of interactive fun.

Forum Sintra, located on the outskirts of Lisbon, is the 12th and most recent Multimall Management shopping center in Portugal. The center, which opened its doors to the public in April 2011, wanted to offer shoppers an innovative attraction that would appeal especially to younger audiences, and help foster enjoyable memories and positive connections between guests and the center.

After brainstorming with client Multimall, creative technologies specialist YDreams proposed a giant-sized interactive virtual aquarium they dubbed Fixelândia, for the enjoyment of the center’s guests. (Note: the name is a play on words because in Portuguese fixe means cool, but also sounds like the word ‘fish’)
The experience, unique to Forum Sintra, gives guests the chance to create and thoroughly customize their own virtual pet fish. Two touch consoles, located at each end of the giant virtual aquarium, comprised of fifteen 40” monitors, invite shoppers to customize their pets. Guests use the touch screens to create their new friend from scratch – they decide on the shape of the body and fins, as well as the color of its eyes and stripes. The variables available enable guests to create up to 30.000 distinct fish, so the risk that any two fish will be identical is minimal! After determining what their new pet will look like, guests get to name it and release it into Fixelândia!

Creating their new pet fish is only half the fun; to make sure they grow into happy, healthy Guppies, the fish need to be fed and visited, a task that can only be accomplished by checking in at the touch consoles at Forum Sintra. The more you visit your virtual pet fish, the bigger and happier it grows, and the more you are able to further customize it by adding new features. In addition, a dedicated website (http://www.fixelandia.net) is also available so that guests can regularly check up on their pet fish from home to see how it’s doing.

A Perfect Use for Near Field Communication in the Real World.

People want personal. Especially as it relates to the idea of interacting with the physical world around them on a “screen.” This is a key reason that mobile is so powerful in its potential. It can fairly easily turn any place or thing “on” to where it is interactable. And it is the personal screen of personal screens.

The Museum of London has created an interesting experience through mobile and Near Field Communication. For anyone who’s been in a museum, I think we can all agree that the little write-ups on plaques do not provide us with the information we want about particular pieces of art. Docents are THE source of information, but the average person going to a museum does not do so with a docent. Enter Near Field Communication (NFC).

Stations at various pieces of art are equipped with NFC tags. Want to know more about the piece of art? Just tap your phone to the tag. Information given.

NFC (Near Field Communication) is a new mobile phone technology which allows users to share information with a simple tap of a device. Working with Nokia, we've introduced NFC to both our venues, and with an increasing number of NFC enabled handsets available in the UK, we're excited to be among the first public organisations to use tomorrow's technology today.
Find out more in this short film and by visiting http://www.museumoflondon.org.uk/Explore-online/NFC.htm

Open a window to the future.

Bron; www.engadget.com
In the future, we'll all be slaves to rectangles. No, really. Well, at least that's the prognosis, albeit sanitized, Microsoft has slickly pieced together in its Productivity Future Vision concept video. It's a mostly seamless world where all of our interactions are made to be mobile, virtual, efficient and white-washed, but it actually just reads as too darn fussy and overcomplicated. Sure, we could get behind contactless payment, tablets with holographic displays and eyeglasses that translate conversations when you've just stepped off a red eye into some foreign destination -- that's all incredibly useful. But car windows with agenda overlays and transparent refrigerator door displays? Some things are better left lo-tech. For Redmond's part, the company's merely aiming to project ways these various implementations of "real technology" will intersect and "actively assist" us with our harried lives.
