BumpTop.

BumpTop is a 3D computer desktop organizer that provides much more flexibility- and perhaps efficiency, than the current folder-icon based desktop we interact with every day.

The next release will support multi-touch, running on Windows 7. According to the BumpTop blog, the application will be bundled with 3D graphics cards. The full version is just under $30.00.

Cell Phone? Camera? Media Player? Picoprojector? No - It’s a Handheld Device.

Cell phones with cameras: this isn’t news. Cell phone with camera and media player: this isn’t news. Cell phone with camera, media player and integrated picoprojector. This was news earlier in the year when Samsung and Logic Wireless showed systems at CES.

Today’s news along these lines is a camera with a picoprojector built into it, the Coolpix S1000pj announced by Nikon on August 4th. The camera is a good point-and-shoot Nikon digital camera with a 12.1 Mpixel sensor, 5x optical zoom lens and a 2.7" 230,000 dot LCD screen. The camera can take VGA resolution, 30 FPS movies. In addition, the camera has a built-in 10 lumen VGA LCoS projector. According to Nikon, the camera battery is good for an hour of projection.
The Nikon Coolpix S1000pj is introduced in September.If that camera/projector sells well, and Nikon has its supply chain in order, this camera alone could sell 50K units by Christmas.

The National Library of Belarus.

The National Library of Belarus, an architectural diamond, is lit at night in stunning fashion by 4646 color-changing RGB LED fixtures. In 2006, Minsk received a new architectural symbol - a brand new building to house the National Library of Belarus. The twenty-three storey library is designed in the form of a diamond and symbolizes the enormous value of knowledge that mankind has stored in books.

The building is covered by glass panels and during the day all 24 sides sparkle as a real diamond. A color-changing LED fixtures is installed around the building, effectively creating a monitor with 25x25 meter sides and 62 meters in diameter. As a result, spectators are able to observe a fantastic show with incredible dynamic plots from hundreds of meters away. It is an extraordinary creative venue for lighting designers. The entire color-changing system was designed and produced by Walter Industries (Minsk, Belarus), a 100% subsidiary of a Canadian lighting manufacturer GVA Lighting, Inc.The system consists of 4646 custom-made RGB light fixtures (star), 1349 controllers, 54 splitters, one channel splitter RS-485-1/8, one converter USB/RS-485-1 and one personal computer. Protocol RS-485 was chosen for maximal reliability of the system. Every star fixture is equipped with three 1W Luxeon (Red, Green, Blue) mounted on a metal-core PCB. The star fixture is IP54-rated and suitable for ambient temperatures varying from -30°C to +50°C.

Samsung komt met twee digitale camera's die niet over één maar over twee displays beschikken.

De achterzijde van de Samsung ST550 en Samsung ST500 wordt vrijwel volledig in beslag genomen door een touchscreen. Bij de ST500 is deze 3 inch groot, bij de ST550 3,5 inch. Deze schermen biedt een ongekend hoge scherpte. Vooral het scherm van de ST550 biedt met 1.152.000 subpixels een enorm hoge resolutie. De touchscree-schermen zijn voorzien van een gravity sensor die besiening via een snelle handbeweging of tik mogelijk maken. Het meest bijzondere aan deze camera's zit echter aan de voorkant. Een tweede lcd-scherm dat 1,5 inch groot is. Dit schermpje is vooral handig bij het maken van een zelfportret. Dit tweede scherm kan worden uitgeschakeld en is dan niet of nauwelijks zichtbaar. De adviesprijs voor de Samsung ST550 bedraagt 349,- euro. De ST500, met kleiner scherm, moet 299,- euro kosten.

Touch is ook interactief.

De LG W2286L LED-monitor is een indrukwekkende monitor die, in combinatie met een media-pc, ook uitstekend als televisie is te gebruiken.
LG komt met zijn eerste LED-monitor; de ultradunne LG W2286L-monitor. Met een indrukwekkende dynamische contrastratio van 2.000.000:1 geeft de W2286L foto's, films en games tot in de kleinste details weer. Deze LCD-monitor met LED-backlight is mooi vormgegeven en heel energiezuinig. De monitor gebruikt gemiddeld veertig procent minder stroom dan een reguliere CCFL-monitor. Bovendien bevat deze monitor geen kwik.De slanke monitor is geheel pianozwart en er is geen rand zichtbaar. Hierdoor heeft de LG W2286L een strakke uitstraling. LG besteedde extra aandacht aan de bediening van de LG W2286L. De enige zichtbare knop is de aan- en uitknop die voorzien is van LED-verlichting. De andere bedieningsknoppen zijn weggewerkt onder de rand en laten alleen een zachtrode gloed zien als de gebruiker met zijn/haar hand in de buurt komt. Door gebruik te maken van LED-backlight is de LG W2286L slechts 20,5 mm dik. Dit is een derde dunner dan de meeste monitoren met CCFL-backlight.

De LG W2286L heeft een resolutie van 1680 x 1050 pixels en een reactietijd van 2ms. Een andere nieuwe feature – Auto Bright – past de beeldweergave aan het licht in de kamer en de content op het scherm aan. Zo is het beeld altijd optimaal en bespaart de monitor tegelijkertijd energie.
De LG W2286L 22-inch met een 16:10-ratio is verkrijgbaar vanaf eind augustus 2009 voor een consumentenadviesprijs vanaf 279 euro.
