Zytronic battles germs with antimicrobial glass for touchscreens

Zytronic, a projected capacitive technology company, has announced it will offer Corning's Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass to fight germs on kiosks and other touchscreen devices. Zytronic will offer this tool for its kiosks, ATMs, digital signage, medical systems and point of sale systems, according to a press release.

The glass is designed with an ionic silver component to reduce bacteria's ability to multiply. The glass is also designed to be scratch resistant to prevent cracks that allow bacteria to enter.

"Touchscreens offer great benefits, but bacteria may live and even multiply on a glass surface even if it is regularly cleaned. We are now able to offer the option of using Antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass to enhance their performance further by helping to protect the touch surface from stain and odor-causing bacteria," Ian Crosby, sales and marketing director at Zytronic, said in the release. "The antimicrobial property is integral to the glass itself and is capable of lasting the lifetime of the terminal – it isn’t a coating or film which can be damaged or wear out."
