On Sept. 2, Compagnia Finzi Pasca’s Montreal Avudo, a nighttime outdoor digital projection show celebrating Montreal’s 375th birthday, came to an end after 149 performances, with nearly 250,000 people having seen it for free since it opened in mid-May.
The larger-than-life show, which projected images on an 11-storey shipping container tower and on jet-powered ‘water walls’ along the St. Lawrence River, was so popular that two additional series were added over the course of the summer, with free tickets quickly snapped up each time.
Daniele Finzi Pasca, the company’s creator and co-founder, was present for the finale, both to thank the public for embracing the show and to present a short behind-the-scenes video about how the show was put together.
