H&M 3D projectie Dam Amsterdam - opening Flagship

H&M opent grootste Nederlandse flagshipstore in Amsterdam. H&M heeft de grootste Nederlandse winkel op de Dam in Amsterdam geopend. De flagshipstore is tevens de eerste winkel waar de interieurcollectie van H&M te koop zal zijn. In opdracht van muse heeft BeamSystems ter gelegenheid van de opening een spectaculaire video-mapping op het gehele monumentale pand gerealiseerd. Hiervoor zijn vier Barco HD30 projectoren ingezet, met een totale lichtopbrengst van maar liefst 120.000 Ansilumen. www.beamsystems.nl

Levendige posters voor Canoncampagne.

Met spectaculaire lichteffecten zorgen Canon en buitenreclame-exploitant JCDecaux voor extra kleur en sfeer in het straatbeeld van vijf grote steden. Tien Abri's en Mupi's zijn uitgerust met posters die gebruik maken van elektroluminescentie, waardoor de uiting letterlijk tot leven komt.

Op de posters wordt met deze techniek het kleurrijke campagnebeeld van de nieuwe Pixma-serie printers deel voor deel opgebouwd, waardoor de uiting tot leven komt. Hiermee wordt niet alleen ingespeeld op de c ampagneslogan van de Pixma-serie - : ‘breng kleur tot leven' - maar ook op de impact van lichteffecten in het donkere, winterse straatbeeld.

De kleurrijke uitingen zijn uitsluitend te vinden op drukke locaties, in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Eindhoven, Arnhem en Enschede

TrustedReviews: Philips Cinema 21:9 58PFL9955H/12 Review.


In short, watch­ing all sorts of 2D stuff on the 58PFL9955H was quite pos­si­bly the most fun we’ve ever had review­ing a TV. Honestly. It’s just impos­si­ble to describe just how effec­tive and impact­ful the 21:9 shape is, espe­cially when it’s com­bined with the stun­ning pic­ture qual­ity Philips has got from its 2010 direct LED sets.

HD qual­ity was ter­rific, too. Just make sure you tune the 21:9 as best as you can. The 58PFL9955H is like a Ferarri: you need to know how to use it to make the most of it. So HD, SD in 2D is great, how about 3D?

It also must be said that the 21:9 shape of the TV works great with 3D, with the extra width and impres­sive screen size mak­ing it eas­ier to get lost in the 3D world you’re watch­ing. Especially if you turn off the Ambilight fea­ture, which oddly seemed rather dis­tract­ing with 3D sources.

Crosstalk noise was found to be more prob­lem­atic than 3D plas­mas but much bet­ter than any other 3D LCD TV brand. TrustedReviews felt that it was “the best TV we’ve ever reviewed.” A few notable specs: 2560×1080, direct LED back­light, 500 cd/m2, HDMI 1.4 (4), Ethernet, USB, WiFi, SD, Component, Composite.

Is 21:9 the next wide? Most if not all film are wider than 16:9 and if you enjoy watch­ing movies more than TV the more theater-like expe­ri­ence from Philips’ 21:9 TV sets might serve you bet­ter. Although a 58-inch TV might be too big to use as a mon­i­tor, a mon­i­tor with a 21:9 aspect ratio would be ter­rific to put up two side-by-side web­pages, doc­u­ments, pre­sen­ta­tions, or really wide spreadsheets.

Microsoft Surface Light and Phisics App for Kids.

The Surface is located in the Smithsonian's Castle, and is part of "The Wonder of Light: Touch and Learn!" exhibit, which opened on Tuesday, November 9th (2010). Microsoft donated the Surface unit to the Smithsonian.

Super LCD, Explained.

Everything is super these days. Super AMOLED. Super IPS. Super PVA. And now Super LCD. So is Super LCD really super?

Super LCD is man­u­fac­tured by Sony Mobile Display (SMD). SMD has focused on low-temperature poly­sil­i­con (LTPS) TFT LCDs, but with the par­tial acqui­si­tion of Seiko Epson’s Epson Imaging Devices (EID), SMD has incor­po­rated amor­phous sil­i­con (a-Si) TFT LCD tech­nol­ogy, which is eas­ier and cheaper to man­u­fac­ture. Super LCD sports SMD’s VSPEC III wide-viewing angle tech­nol­ogy (branded as Vistarich) com­bined with a new LCD dri­ver that leads to a con­trast ratio of 800:1 and 160/160 view­ing angles (>100:1 CR). Color gamut is a claimed 100% sRGB. Sony reports that opti­cal char­ac­ter­is­tics are equiv­a­lent to organic EL dis­plays, or OLEDs. Super LCD also fea­tures lower power con­sump­tion, low EMI, and Windows-On tech­nol­ogy. That last bit elim­i­nates the air gap between the panel and the glass cover result­ing in less sur­face reflectance. Lower power con­sump­tion is the result of a higher aper­ture ratio and bet­ter light transmittance.



Here’s the text asso­ci­ated with the dia­gram above:

■Existing struc­ture: A large reflec­tion loss occurs due to the air gap between the win­dow and the LCD mod­ule. (Surface reflec­tiv­ity: 12%)
■Window-On struc­ture: The air gap is elim­i­nated by apply­ing the win­dow directly to the LCD mod­ule, greatly reduc­ing reflec­tion losses. (Surface reflec­tiv­ity: 12% is reduced to 4%)

There has been a lot of debate as to which is the best dis­play. Super LCD, IPS, Super AMOLED all have pros and cons but when it comes to color fidelity or accu­racy on smart­phones using these dis­plays IPS and Super LCD come out ahead. Sunlight read­abil­ity? LCD tech­nol­ogy comes out ahead of OLED, even the super vari­ety. The one area that OLED tech­nol­ogy spanks any LCD, includ­ing IPS and Super LCD, is in black lev­els: OLED dis­plays are as black as black can be.

Een 3.8 bij 2.3 meter metend Diamond Vision OLED-scherm van Mitsubishi Electric werd geïnstalleerd in de receptie van een nieuwe onderzoeksfaciliteit geopend door Merck, een van 's werelds leidende farmaceutische bedrijven.

Het nieuwe scherm wordt gebruikt om bezoekers te verwelkomen in het centrum, als ondersteuning bij presentaties en als decor bij evenementen op de Darmstadt faculteit. Mitsubishi Electric en Merck, een wereldleider in elektroluminescerende materialen, werken nauw samen om de volgende generatie van de OLED-verbindingen te ontwikkelen voor gebruik in de display-producten. Diamond Vision OLED biedt de perfecte illustratie van de praktische toepassingen van dat onderzoek.

Kijkhoek
Ontwikkeld als een compleet nieuwe klasse van indoor display, biedt Diamond Vision OLED brede horizontale en verticale kijkhoeken van ongeveer ± 80 graden. Het scherm is ideaal voor gebruik in relatief helder verlichte gebieden zoals commerciële voorzieningen, stations en luchthavens. De geringe diepte van het scherm, van 99 mm, maakt gebruik in smalle ruimten mogelijk.
Volgens de makers presteert het scherm op visueel gebied beter dan de allerbeste 3mm LED-schermen, maar is meer dan 60 procent dunner en 30 procent lichter. De kostprijs ligt aanzienlijk lagen dan bij een vergelijkbaar LED-scherm.

Mitsubishi Electric's Diamond Vision OLED-technologie zal een centrale rol spelen in de presentatie van het bedrijf op de Integrated Systems Europe, die van 1 tot en met 3 februari 2011 plaatsvindt in de RAI Amsterdam.

iPhone met fysiek qwerty-toetsenbord.

BoxWave is de fabrikant van de Keyboard Buddy iPhone 4 Case, een case voor de iPhone 4 die niet alleen de achterkant van de Apple telefoon beschermt maar er ook een qwerty-toetsenbord aan toevoegd.

Dit toetsenbord zit onzichtbaar verborgen in de case, maar als je het toetsenbord wilt gebruiken kun je hem eenvoudig uitschuiven en gaan tikken.

Een ideale oplossing voor wie op een mooie manier een qwerty-toetsenbord op zijn iPhone wil aansluiten. De iPhone wordt alleen wat dikker van deze uitbreiding, maar verder heb je er geen last van.

De prijs van 70 dollar is helaas fors te noemen.

Holographic Laser Projection ( HLP )


Light Blue Optics, "a privately-funded company developing and supplying miniature projection systems for use in high volume applications in markets including automotive, digital signage and consumer electronics." Light Blue Optics is located in Cambridge, UK, and has a development facility in Colorado Springs.
"Light Blue Optics, which rolled out the Light Touch in January, is working with several restaurant chains to put its technology on tables...“You can project menus onto the table so the customer can sit down and order their meal,” says Tamara Roukaerts, director of marketing communications at Light Blue Optics. “They can also watch videos of the chef preparing their meal through a live video feed.”"

Funky Forest.

"Funky Forest is a wild and crazy ecosystem where children manage the resources to influence the environment around them. By using their bodies or pillow "rocks" and "logs", water flowing from the digital stream on the floor can be dammed and diverted to the forest to make different parts grow. If a tree does not receive enough water it withers away but by pressing their bodies into the forest children create new trees based on their shape and character. As children explore and play they discover that the environment is inhabited by a variety of sonic life forms and creatures who appear and disappear depending on the health of the forest. As the seasons change the creatures also go through a metamorphosis."

Note: A version of Funky Forest, Moomah Edition, is permanently installed in New York City at the Moomah Children's Cafe. This version includes interactive environments related to the four seasons of the year, including an interactive particle system with falling leaves and snow.

Touchscreen made of ice.

Chances are this is one research project that won't find its way into a phone, but Nokia's research lab in Tampere, Finland has come up with a rather unique new type of touchscreen display: one made of ice. Of course, there are a few other components involved -- namely, a projector and an array of near-infrared cameras that are connected to a PC -- but it is technically a multitouch display made of ice, and that's got to count for something. For Nokia's part, it says that while the project is a "playful experiment," it does show that "interactive computing interfaces can now be built anywhere.
