iPad 3 Will be Transparent and Rimless: Rumor (Video)

Bron: Tech&Trend
All kinds of rumors for Apple's next generation tablet - dubbed iPad 3 -- are flying thick and fast all over the Internet. And, the most recent rumor is that -- hold your breath -- iPad 3 will be transparent and rimless.

In the concept video, a user holds his advanced iPad over his knees, and browses photos, reads book, posts on the social media, watches movie, and plays the popular game Angry Birds game. Nothing unusual except that the concept iPad is rimless and transparent.

The explanation accompanying the video predicts that Apple's next generation tablet will weigh 0.6 pounds, sport a storage space of 16GB, battery life of 10 hrs, and 3G connectivity. A blend of performance and awesomeness, the futuristic iPad will sport a 9.7-inch multi-touch holographic screen with fluid-like controls. "Whether it is flipping a photograph or zooming a map, the operations have become more accurate and precise" on the new iPad, the publisher of the video, Dakota Adney, suggests.

Apple's iPad 3 is expected to be unveiled sometime in the first quarter of 2012 and rumors go that it will boast of Retina Display (2048x1536 pixel), better cameras, a more powerful processor (quad-core?), 4G LTE support and Siri,iPhone 4S personal voice assistant.

Meanwhile, enjoy the video below.

Make a Wish campagne ingezonden wensen.

The Macallan gets a taste for 3D in airport promotion

A high-end spirits brand is using 3D digital out-of-home to cut through the intense visual clutter at one of Europe’s busiest airports.

The 3D holographic promotion for The Macallan whisky, owned by The Edrington Group, is running at Schiphol airport in Amsterdam and at the visitor centre of the whisky distillery in Scotland.

CGI animations tell the story of the whisky from its origins to today’s distillation process, shown on a display from Dreamoc.
Said Stuart Cupit, co-founder of the 3D specialist Inition, which produced the content: “It is really great to see adventurous brands starting to use and explore 3D and holographic display technology.
“The Dreamoc kiosk is a great fit for The Macallan brand, allowing them to showcase their single malt whisky and convey its rich heritage through the holographic imagery.”

Krant komt in beweging.

Bron; www.telegraaf.nl

Imagine Feeling Texture On Your Touchscreen

Soon you’ll not only be able to control a tablet with your fingertips, but you’ll actually be able to feel various textures like fabric, sand and water on your touchscreen. Though it may seem like a far-fetched reality, more and more companies are designing prototypes that feature this “Feel Screen” technology.
Both Disney Research’s TeslaTouch and the Swiss scientists at EPFL are working to enhance tablet experiences with the use of electrovibration technology. This innovative software development adds the sensation of texture in relation to the displayed image by implementing sonorous vibrations. Unfortunately, an undesired sensation supplements this advancement—noise.

Unlike effects created by mechanical vibration, the latest electrovibration technology developed by Senseg guarantees a silent device, and the company expects to release their “Feel Screen” interface sometime within the next two years. Additionally, Microsoft promises to replicate textures with light-sensitive, plastic, cell-constructed screens, eliminating the noise derived from electrovibration technology.

Excited to know more? Check out these demonstration videos of “Feel Screen” prototypes below:

We can’t help but imagine what it would be like to take this advancement one step further. How about playing with this giant, multi-user touchscreen in combination with sensory textures?

The Vending Machine of Tomorrow Will Lure You in With Beautiful Animations

Andrew Liszewski - There’s the potential for the next generation of touchscreen LCD vending machines to be an all out assault on our senses. So here’s hoping more companies will take this subtly animated approach instead of horrifying advertisements.
This concept machine, created by Sanden, Okaya Electronics, and Intel, uses a monstrous 65 inch transparent HD display that still lets shoppers see the actual products being sold. And instead of just playing full screen commercials with music blaring, a series of simple silhouetted animations and menus are used to entice shoppers to give up their pocket change.

But the futuristic vending machine isn’t about improving the human experience, it’s still about effectively selling crap. So it’s also got a built-in camera that can identify the person using the machine as being male or female, young or old, providing advertisements and other animated content targeted towards their demographic. As long as it ensures there’s always Coke in stock so I don’t have to settle for a Sprite, they can bombard me with whatever they want. [DigInfo]

Walk through identification

Artec Group 3D face recognition technology is represented by a line of Broadway 3D biometric devices.

The Broadway 3D is the first device in the world capable of visually identifying a person as easily as humans identify each other. Identification takes a split second. Walk or even run past, simply glance at the device and it will “remember” and recognize the identity of one of the tens of thousands of previously registered people. Unlike other biometrics, the 3D face doesn’t require direct physical contact or exact positioning in front of the identification device. The Broadway 3D identifies walking or even running people regardless of their age or height.

Similar to humans, the device is equipped with a 3D vision system, which “remembers” the unique three-dimensional shape of the face. Unlike human vision, however, the device is able to differentiate nuanced geometry with accuracy of up to fractions of a millimeter, enabling it to tell apart identical twins and making the Broadway 3D one of the most accurate biometric devices.

Dancing with Penguins

Bron: digitalsignageeurope
UK shoppers are invited by a new digital signage campaign to dance with penguins. The campaign for movie Happy Feet Two uses gesture recognition and touch interactivity.

The campaign was developed by Monster Media for Limited Space’s Ad HD network of interactive screens in major British shopping centres. According to the firm, a two week campaign like this one would typically reach around 9 million shoppers. The Happy Feet Two promotion achieved almost 44,000 interactions – around 0.5 percent of the total audience.
“Malls provide the perfect mix of conditions for interactive engagement,” said Matt Gordon, MD of Limited Space. “As leisure destinations they have high dwell times and are full of shoppers who are already in the ideal mindset to explore some really engaging content.”

The firm also pointed to research by Posterscope showing that shopping centres are the ideal location for British consumers to interact with digital campaigns. Of those surveyed, 49 percent said they would be willing to engage with interactive media in a shopping centre, with railway stations following in second place.

Intel's AIM Suite digital signs.

Looking at digital advertisements has become commonplace in malls and bus stops around the world. A growing number of those signs are now looking back at you.

Intel's AIM Suite digital signs use facial detection cameras and software to determine a consumer's age and gender, and then tailors their ads. If an 23-year old woman walks by the sign, it might display an ad for a hair product. But if a 53-year old man strolls past, a BMW ad may be displayed.

AIM Suite is designed to detect broad age ranges: 18 and under, 18-34, 34-59 and 60 and over. It can also determine gender -- typically by checking out the ears. If ears are showing, there's an 85% chance the subject is male, according to Intel. The software cannot, however, record images or recognize specific faces.
But it does send data back to the advertisers, including how long a consumer engages with a particular ad and how far away they're standing from the sign. That can help advertisers understand the appeal of their on-screen content for different groups and decide how frequently they should change it. Static posters can't do that.
The technology has been on the market for just three months, but advertisers have been quick to adopt it. Brian Huseman, senior counsel for Intel, estimates that of the "millions" of digital signs around the world, AIM Suite is in a "low single-digit percentage" of them.

Aloft Hotel tests holographic QR codes to enhance guest experience

QR codes are part of a holographic
 display Aloft is testing
Aloft Hotel is testing a holographic concierge with QR codes to give guests easy access to information and offers from local businesses.
The holographic image is projected onto a life-sized cut-out of a person in the hotel lobby of an Aloft Hotel. The holographic concierge provides information about the best local shopping destinations, golfing, spas, transportation and restaurants.
“Thrifty travelers with a sense of style who Aloft caters to wouldn’t be caught dead without a trendy-looking smartphone, and they are almost certainly savvy with the sorts of apps that save time and money,” said Brennan Hayden, vice president of Wireless Developer Agency, East Lansing, MI.
Green and red codes
Recognizing that its guests are connected via their smartphones, Aloft wanted to make it easy for them to download information from the holographic concierge.
Local advertisers can deliver a message via the holographic concierge with the QR enabling mobile guests to further engage with the advertiser’s message.

The QR codes are color coded for different types of information. The green colored QR codes provide contact information, reservation information, directions while the red QR codes offer up discounts and special offers.

“The QR codes within the virtual concierge are divided into 2 categories—green QR codes are used for downloading information, addresses, directions and more, while red QR codes offer discounts and coupons,” Ms. Rajkarnikar said. “The QR codes are offered as a complement to the concierge’s services.”
The holographic concierge uses high-definition images of plates of food or products that are enhanced with the use of smell via AromaFusion technology to help address guests’ questions. The messages are delivered 24 hours a day.

“Travelers are often pressed for time, in frequent need of information, and perhaps are depending more completely on a Smartphone than they might at home,” Mr. Hayden said.
“In the hotel environment, QR codes provide a convenient means to get information immediately, rather than having to scramble for a pen and paper to jot down a URL for later use,” he said. ”The QR code also insure that the information is available for later use.”

Interactive images float in space.

Bron; www.inavate.com
DisplAir has added interactivity to floating images, projected onto a bank of fog. The small Russian company is building on developments by FogScreen who originally pioneered the technology that creates mesmerising projected objects that appear to hang in mid-air. FogScreen has already explored interactivity using laser scanner technology. DisplAir’s solution uses an infrared camera to capture gestures a subtle as small hand movements.

The technology is expected to make headway in advertising and entertainment industries.

Software has been developed that allows users to navigate menus and scale, rotate and move images using standard gestures. A keypad can be called up and images can even be drawn in the air.
According to reports from technology news site Gizmag, the display can handle up to 1,500 finger taps simultaneously with 1cm accuracy and a time delay of less than two seconds.
The technology is expected to make headway in advertising and entertainment industries and DisplAir is currently looking for investors.

Digital Signage in Lifts

Digital Signage is everywhere. Whether people know what this new medium is called or even understand the intricacies involved in its power, people have seen the by-product of digital signage in their everyday lives. These days advertising is the common form of digital signage seen in many stores, shopping centers and public areas.

There is a technical side to describe digital signage. The simple way to think about digital signage is that it refers to the use of digital technology to deliver content. It usually involves a screen and a digital signage player which contains the necessary software to store and deliver information, advertisements and entertainment in a multitude of ways to suit a particular purpose.

It may be difficult to know what digital signage can do for you or even if it is right for you but what it can do is ensure that you save money and make money at the same time.

While many people think advertising is the only thing that digital signage can do, it is only one small aspect of its power. The true potential of digital signage has yet to be explored.

Digital signage can be used to do one or more of the following:
• inform the audience about sales, events, emergency information, news, where to go and just general information
• entertain the audience with music, music videos, television, movies and pictures
• advertise products and services

Digital signage can be used to save money by reducing the need for other mediums to inform, entertain and advertise but digital signage can also create money for you by paid to display content for manufacturers of products, neighboring businesses and community groups.

The options are limitless and the effort is insignificant when you hire the right professionals to create, deploy and manage your digital signage solution.

So: digital signage is everywhere! You’ve probably already seen these in shopping centers, retail stores, medical centers, hotels, restaurants, take away stores, bathrooms/toilets, public venues, train stations, bus stops, reception areas, offices and now they can be found in lifts too.

Generate QR Codes in Digital Signage

QR code abbreviated from Quick Response code, it is a bar code made of a two-dimensional code that is readable by barcode scanner or camera telephones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The QR code can contain information like text, URL, phone number, SMS, or Contact information Vcard.

Today QR codes are used in many digital signage applications as call for action advertising, proof of performance and ROI use. The QR code allows the advertiser to provide the audience with fast access to information, promotion and coupons, without the need to memorize any coupon codes, website or contact information.

Some of the reasons they are more useful than a standard barcode is that they can store much more data, including URL links, geo coordinates, VCard, SMS, etc. Another key feature of QR Codes is that many modern cell phones can scan them. Once it is in your cell phone, it may give you details about that business or promotion.

How can you use QR codes to benefit digital signage?
There are many ways to utilize QR Codes in digital signage; the concept of QR codes in digital signage is to display the QR code on the screen in combination of content or an ad. The audience can scan the QR code from the display to get additional information on content or promotion displayed on the screen. Using this technology you can measure and improve the digital signage ROI.

The success in using QR codes is dependent on some important factors. First and foremost is that you need to have a captive audience and they are close enough to the screen so they will be able to scan the bar code. Second, if you going to have QR codes in your marketing plan for digital signage make sure you keep the content relevant and attractive.

How do I generate QR CODES?
There many free or-code generators that can help you generate images of the QR code. You can use these images as an ad and upload them to your digital signage CMS, With UCView as we always promise to make thing simple, you can use our free app QR-Coder from our content store to generate your QR-code directly to your display. Using QR-Coder app you can generate any type of QR code in just seconds. You can publish the QR code as independent ad or as a sync ad related to any ad or content in your playlist, this will allow you to play relevant qr code to the content currently plays on the screen.

Fabrica Creative Windows.

Starting in May 2010, the Benetton Live Windows project has developed a dozen in- and off-store installations in Milan, Munich, Barcelona, Moscow, Shanghai and more. We focused on a new, experiential, language. Interactivity is key in engaging users and turning them into customers: to be successful it must be extremely useable, meaningful, immediately rewarding, perfectly working and appealing. We developed a number of interactive applications that share these features: open to all targets, all intuition with no instruction, body-language based and scalable on different stores layout. Our video contents are not all product-related: we opened to an external network with young talented designers and art schools to produce the needed amount and variety of contents. Commercial contents are all ad hoc produced.

PragmatIC demonstrates NFC label with built-in display

The flexible labels don't need a battery and automatically light up or display information when they are read by an NFC phone.

PragmatIC Printing and security printing giant De La Rue have developed a prototype NFC label that includes a display which is powered up when it is read by an NFC phone or RFID reader.

The label has been developed through the Rail (Remotely Activated Interactive Labels) project which has received a £600,000 (US$958,000) grant from the UK's Technology Strategy Board.

A range of concepts have been developed around the idea that a visual feature such as a light or logo is triggered when a consumer interacts with a label via their NFC phone.

Since the labels are powered up by the phone or reader, no battery is required. This means, says PragmatIC, that the labels can be both flexible and thin, at around 50 micrometers — thinner than an average human hair. The labels are also compatible with conventional hot lamination printing processes.

"PragmatIC's unique imprint based approach to printed electronics is not only able to deliver potentially exciting new security features, but is also a natural complement to other security printing technologies such as holographic embossing," says Philip Cooper, head of ideas at De La Rue.

PragmatIC has been demonstrated the prototypes at the Tax Stamp Forumin Washington DC in september.

Hiperwall - High Resolution, Large Format, Display Systems

Hiperwall makes it simple to build high performance, scalable video wall from ordinary computers, ordinary monitors and an ordinary LAN. Hiperwall lets you view any combination of content types:

  • Ordinary graphic images;
  • Extremely large graphic images, up to 1 gigabyte or larger;
  • Digital movies, including standard and HDTV format;
  • Streaming content from cameras and other live sources;
  • Live "sender" feeds that let a room full of people view the constantly changing screen displays of one or more computers.
Hiperwall lets you resize and relocate each content object anywhere on the video wall, within a single monitor or across multiple monitors. Its as easy as moving and resizing windows on the desktop of your personal computer. Hiperwall also provides advanced capabilities like zoom, rotation, shading and transparency, enabling users to examine content with increased flexibility and effectiveness.
